First Dental Visit

Your Child’s Dental Home

Picture of a baby ready for her first dental visitOur office, as well as the The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a “Dental Home” for your child by one year of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care. The Dental Home is intended to provide a place other than the Emergency Room for parents.

As a parent you might wonder, “Why does a one year old need to come to the dentist?!” The first several dental exams are centered around  helping the patient become comfortable in a dental setting and dental exams for kids under 2 are free. When we start kids at age one we have better success in transitioning them to more complete dental exams and treatment as they get older. At the first visit we can pinpoint any factors that might predispose a young patient to early childhood cavities or developmental issue that may need to be addressed early.

We invite you to stay with your child during the initial visit. Our treatment bay has a sitting/play area for parents and siblings of patients. Usually the new patient is most comfortable knowing a parent can accompany him or her. Our friendly experienced staff strives to gain your child’s confidence and make this a positive experience for all.

We strive to make each and every visit to our office enjoyable!
